Getting active together: Finish Line Finale

Over the last few weeks, we've seen our amazing community pull together in support of one another in the fight against COVID-19. To celebrate the strength of our community, we would love to see as many people as possible across Oxfordshire coming together to complete your 26 minutes on 26th May at 2pm – the Mayathon Finish Line. Whether you choose to do 26 minutes of skipping, running, chair yoga, online workouts, hoovering or running up and down stairs, the important bit is to start at 2pm and join with our incredible, resilient community to celebrate the power of getting active.
From Wednesday 13th May, we will be able to leave the house for unlimited exercise. Why not take advantage of this and complete a half Mayathon, taking on 26 minutes per day and ending with the Finish Line Finale on 26th May?

We are all living in unprecedented times, and it has never been more important to stay physically active and connected both during the coronavirus crisis, and beyond. That's why we are asking our Oxfordshire community to take part in the Mayathon challenge, and take on 26 minutes of activity every day, starting on 1st May.

How does Mayathon work?
The Mayathon challenge is to complete 26 minutes of exercise a day for 26 days in a row, starting on 1st May 2020. The best bit is that you can do Mayathon virtually alongside a friend, neighbour, family member or work colleague to help keep you motivated. Your daily 26 minutes can be any type of activity, designed to fit in with your situation, your environment and your time. The challenge finishes on 26th May, and we'll be in touch to let you know about the finale!
You can use the free mayathon app to help you buddy-up, log your activity, track your mood, and easily access free playlists and work-out videos.

Why take part in Mayathon?
Staying active makes a huge difference in helping us to feel good and benefits not only our physical health but also our mental health. This is especially important at a time of so much uncertainty and stress. Taking part in Mayathon will help you feel healthier, happier and more connected.
Reaching the target 26 minutes of exercise each day also means you'll be meeting the national physical activity guidelines to do at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week (for adults, aged 19+).
Simply download the app and choose your buddy to get started. It's completely free and easy to do. Your 26 minutes each day can be any type of activity, from climbing stairs and hoovering to running, cycling, dancing or online workouts. Stay in touch
If you are not currently active, it's important to build up any activity slowly and gradually and consider splitting your 26 minutes into smaller chunks. Information about exercising safely (including COVID-19 specific information) and guidelines can be found here. If you're unsure, you should consult a healthcare professional.
